House still couldn't quite believe how the previous day had gone. When he'd gone into Fox's shop for an ingredient for an experiment, he certainly hadn't expected to share a bed with him. Asking him to dinner would have seemed like a slightly more likely outcome, and somehow that had ended up happening after.

Later that evening he went back to Fox's place, dressed nicely (for him) and smelling good.

"Indian would be lovely," Fox nodded, offering a small smile. "I admit, I wasn't sure you would come. Don't know why, just... Thought maybe you'd had time to reconsider in the daylight," he added with a laugh.

"Me?" House laughed, too. "Well aren't we quite a pair then, because I wasn't sure you'd open the door."

Fox laughed a bit, then smiled. "Well it was this or a re-run of QI," he teased. "It was a close call though."

"Well I can quiz you over dinner if you like," House said. "Shall we?"

Fox laughed and nodded, walking along at House's side.

"What did you do today? Work?" he guessed.

"I did," House said. "Did you know werewolves can get gallstones?"

The restaurant wasn't far, intentionally, though the walk was slow due to House's cane.

"I didn't, but that's... Well it's a fact I now have, I guess," Fox said with a laugh. "I've not ever really known any werewolves. I went to school with one, but I didn't know him really."

"It's fascinating, really," House said. "Both the mundane and the extraordinary of medicine with the supernatural world. You wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen with vampires."

"What about fae?" Fox asked curiously.

"Occasionally," said House. "I think many fae tend to be distrustful. Or maybe they're just exceptionally healthy."

Fox hummed and nodded, because both seemed to be true. "I confess, I've never known a sickly fae other than myself, and I don't really count."

"I did get you a prescription," House said after a moment. "I don't know how you're feeling about it in the light of day."

"Me either," Fox admitted. "But thank you though. I still might try it. It really did help me sleep. Nothing else really has."

"How do you know it was the drugs and not just me sleeping next to you?" House quipped.

"Because you're too interesting to put me to sleep," Fox said simply.

House looked at him as they walked, and his mouth pulled into a slow smile at that. "That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me," he said cheerfully.

"Well that's depressing," Fox teased with a laugh, his smile warm and soft.

House chuckled a little, and then after a moment said, "It's kind of... strange, how all this happened, right?" Pause. "I confess, it had crossed my mind to ask you out, before this."

"Why didn't you?" Fox asked. "Did I seem like I was dripping with prospects? Fair maidens and princes lined up down the block?"

He shrugged, then smiled. "Strange is good. I'm used to strange."

"Well, I don't really.... tend to do that much, and..." House looked a bit awkward. "I thought I was too old for you. Though now I realize I don't actually know how old you are." With his fae blood, there was no telling.

"I'm thirty-six," Fox answered. "Why, how old are you?"

House rubbed the back of his neck. "Forty-eight," he said. "But you... look younger. I guess that's not surprising though."

"That's not such a big difference really," Fox assured him. "And I don't look too much younger than my age. I mean, I don't feel like I do at least."

House thought it was a big difference, but it was kind of nice that Fox felt that way. He kind of wanted to ask about Fox's lifespan, but that seemed like a second date kind of question.

"Well mostly you're just hot," House assured him.

"And here I was hoping you were admiring my stunning intellect," Fox said. "I suppose I'm alright with being wanted for my looks though."
