Wilson accepted the coffee with a quiet “Thanks,” watching Nyx over the rim of the mug as he took a sip.

“That’s impressive,” he said gently. “Keeping your creative brain working while you’re dealing with all this? That’s not easy.”

House couldn't help but notice that he didn't say while you’re sick. He didn’t say while you're high. He just let it mean whatever Nyx needed it to.

House put a hand on Nyx's shoulder briefly before moving to sit beside him.

“But it makes sense," Wilson continued. "Sometimes working on something that feels like it’s yours can make everything else a little more tolerable.” A small smile. “Or at least keep you from throwing your phone across the room when people keep calling to check in.”

He set his coffee down on the table, folding his hands loosely in his lap.

“You mind if I ask how you’ve been feeling lately? Just a little background before we talk through anything more clinical. No pressure. Just a conversation.”

It had been a long time since House had seen Wilson's bedside manner. It of course blew his out of the water.
