"Thanks," said House, and pocketed the pills Hex had given him. He'd suggested they step out on the balcony outside his office. Less chance of someone seeing them.
He pulled a joint out of one pocket. "You want some?"
He pulled a matchbook out of his other pocket. It was emblazoned with the name of the hotel he'd been at with Corbin the other nght. They were really nice matchbooks and he'd grabbed a couple on his way out.
He honestly wasn't sure what the best thing to do here was, or what Corbin would want him to do. In the end it seemed like the truth was the pash of least resistance.
Part of him wondered why Hex hadn't told him - but why would he? Also for all he knew Corbin was dating a lot of people. Maybe House wasn't enough to warrant a mention.
Though for whatever reason he really did think that he was special.
"Fine. Fine, then I'll take care of it meself and hook you up with less.
Someone's got to look out for you if you won't do it yourself," he said,
sounding quite firm despite the fact he didn't feel confident at all.
"Whatever, Hex," House said irritably, and stubbed out the joint after taking one more hit. "Look, I was never going to snitch on you anyway. Do what you want."
"For christ's sake I am not dying," House said, rolling his eyes. "There is, in fact, nothing wrong with me. Oh, except for pain. Good thing I've got pills for that."
"You think that will matter? All the time you've been a doctor, you never
saw anybody wrecked by the death of a loved one?" Hex countered.
He looked at him a long moment.
"You're not going to change," he decided. "Find your drugs somewhere else.
I don't want to comfort a friend. And I don't want to be comforted,
either."
House's comment had been more to suggest that Corbin was with Hex and not him. But he supposed it was unfair to assume that Corbin wouldn't care if something happened to him.
"Like I said," House said flatly, "You're off the hook."

Hex shook his head slowly and looked down. The logo was distinctive. Hex knew he'd seen it before...

"Now I do," he said. "And it almost distracted me from nagging you about the drugs, yeah? You need to take it seriously."
