House was having a rough day. Not only had one of the poison antidotes he'd been working on turned out to be a dismal failure this morning (just ask the dead squirrel he'd been using as a test subject), but also his leg fucking hurt.

He was considering going to Hannibal's. A massage and an orgasm might do him wonders. But first he decided he just needed a decent meal and a drink. A drink or five. So he went to Hex's inn and sat at the bar, digging into a meat pie while a glass with two fingers of whiskey in it sat beside him.

His cane was leaning against the bar beside him, but someone bumped it and it clattered to the floor loudly. He sighed and started to bend over to pick it up.

House's leg was still aching. The alcohol had helped, but only so much.

When Nyx returned, he was rubbing his thigh with the heel of his hand, but when he saw him, straightened up again. "Thanks."

"You're injured?" Nyx asked as he put the tea in front of House.

"Ah... yes. I mean. A long time ago." He wrapped both hands around the cup. "Some days it's just worse than others."

"I could ease it a little," Nyx offered.

"With magic?" House guessed. "I mean, I've tried. There are potions and tinctures that help. But it's a uh, magic lingers in the injury so it tends to resist attempts to nullify it."

"Fae magic is different," Nyx replied, since he knew that much. "It's more... In tune with nature, I think. At least, that's what I was always told as a boy."

House hesitated. "I'm not going to wish for anything," he said.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Dryad's don't really do wishes. We trade though. Do you have something to trade? A shiny stone, maybe?" Nyx said hopefully.

House arched an eyebrow. "You want... a stone? Well. I can probably do better."

And he pulled the wooden horse out of his pocket again. "The magic is imbued into the wood so just tap there - " He tapped, and the horse started to trot around again.

Nyx lit up at the offer, watching the horse again.

"This is a very fair trade," he agreed. "Here, let me ease your pain. I need to rest my palm over the pain."

House didn't think it was going to work. But he didn't mind parting with the horse. He liked how much Nyx seemed to like it.

But he turned in his chair so that he was facing him. "My leg," he said, and tapped his thigh.

Nyx moved closer, resting his hands on the other man's thigh, closing his eyes as he focused.

His magic was warm and tender, coaxing out the pain.

House really wasn't expecting to feel anything at all. But then... he did. Or rather, didn't feel something. At least, not as much.

His eyes went wide in shock. "You... that..." he stammered. He'd tried everything. Everything. The pain wasn't completely gone but it was at least half what it had been a moment ago.

Nyx pulled his hands away, worried he'd done something wrong.

"Is it alright?" he asked quietly.

"Yes," House said quickly. "No, it's working, I'm just surprised."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Oh," Nyx smiled, relaxing slightly. "I am pleased to hear it."

House still looked a little dazed. "How... long will it last?"

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Oh- I don't know, actually. I've never done it before," Nyx admitted. Royals didn't exactly go around healing people. "A while, I think," he shrugged, as though that were an actual measurement of time.

House wasn't sure if "a while" meant three hours or three months. So after a brief hesitation he said, "Well depending on how long it lasts... would you allow me to come back to you later?"

"Of course," Nyx nodded. "I would be glad to trade," he added cheerfully.

"Anything else you'd particularly like?" House wondered. He put his hand on his thigh as if testing that it were still there.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I don't know, something pretty? I like shiny rocks. I like things that glitter..." Nyx shrugged.

The fae wasn't picky though.

"I'll... remember that," House said.

Nyx clearly had no idea what a big deal this was, and House decided not to make a bigger deal out of it.

"I feel like I should go get laid tonight," he said.

Then realized what he'd said and added quickly, "That wasn't a come-on, just... it's been a long time since I haven't been in pain."

Nyx didn't look offended though, he just giggled.

"Maybe you should," he purred playfully.

"Well fortunately.... if you're not volunteering there is a brothel just down the street," House said with a sheepish smile.
