"Wyn?" House stopped him in the hallway. "You have a minute?"

Part of him wanted to wait until he had more answers to talk to Wyn about the tests he'd been doing, but hee probably deserved to stay informed.

"Don't worry about the price, it's a cost I can pay on my own. Just let me help," Wyn said gently.

"All right, then I will give you another reason," House said calmly, though he felt very tense. "I do not think it would be wise for me to acquire an addiction to you."

"I'd be flattered if you did," Wyn said. "But alright, I won't offer if it makes you uncomfortable- I just hate knowing you're in pain."

House looked at him for a long moment then, and finally said, "Wyn, I'll be straight with you. If it seems like I'm trying to keep my distance, I am. It's not your fault, it's..." Fuck why had he started trying to say this. "You've gotten into my head in a way that isn't entirely appropriate. Which is my problem, not yours."

Wyn looked confused, but it only took a moment to understand what Greg was saying.

"I'm sorry. Is it my hormones? I'm wearing my necklace... But I can also actively try and keep them in check. I don't- I don't want you to be uncomfortable around me."

"It's not," said House. At least he didn't think it was. "Maybe you should just forget I said anything, I just didn't want you to think... look, it's just that it's my problem, it's not you. Okay?"

"Okay," Wyn said softly, not sure why that made his heart ache just a little.

God he was so fucking lonely.

House took another drink of the coffee. "It's good," he said awkwardly.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"It is," Wyn nodded, though he was just holding his cup. looking down into it.

"Sometimes when I sip it it feels like it's warming my soul."

"Mmmm perhaps this is the cure for my cold, dead heart," House said. Which was a phrase he'd heard more than once.

"Oh, I don't think your heart is cold at all," Wyn purred.

Yeah that tone in his voice was absolutely not helping.


"You flatter me," he said as he looked at him straight in the eyes.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I just tell the truth," Wyn assured him, holding his gaze a beat.

Was it the pheromones? Fuck.

"Well then," he said, "guess I don't need melting after all."

[prince_of_nymphs]

Wyn smiled at that, his expression soft and warm.

"I fear I've fallen behind somewhat in my studies," he admitted, content to simply chat away with the other man.

House frowned. "Why?"

[prince_of_nymphs]

"I missed classes while I was healing and Hex was ill," Wyn admitted. "It's been hard trying to catch up."

"You're smart," House said. "A good wizard. Don't let that slip."

[prince_of_nymphs]

"Thank you," Wyn said, blushing a little. "It means a lot to me that you think so. Truly."

“Yes, well. You know I mean it, because otherwise I wouldn’t be spending my time on you,” House said bluntly. But it was true.

[prince_of_nymphs]

"No, I suppose that's true," Wyn nodded with a tiny smile. "You don't strike me as the sort who wastes time on anything that you don't have a keen interest in."

"I do not," confirmed House. Though he wished that his interest in Wyn were not quite so keen.

"What an honor to hold your interest at all then," Wyn said, looking genuinely touched.

House looked at him for a moment and wondered if Wyn had actually grasped the confession he'd made earlier in this conversation.

But all he said was, "Usually I'm not the first choice for students to voluntarily spend time with either."

"I like spending time with you. ...You're honest and you never make me feel like an outsider, even when you're examining me like some foreign being," Wyn said honestly, shrugging one shoulder.
