House was having a rough day. Not only had one of the poison antidotes he'd been working on turned out to be a dismal failure this morning (just ask the dead squirrel he'd been using as a test subject), but also his leg fucking hurt.

He was considering going to Hannibal's. A massage and an orgasm might do him wonders. But first he decided he just needed a decent meal and a drink. A drink or five. So he went to Hex's inn and sat at the bar, digging into a meat pie while a glass with two fingers of whiskey in it sat beside him.

His cane was leaning against the bar beside him, but someone bumped it and it clattered to the floor loudly. He sighed and started to bend over to pick it up.

House opened his mouth, then closed it again. And then finally said, "So how are you actually reacting to my flirting with you then? You don't believe it?"

"I believe it," Nyx assured him. "Just because I'm enticing doesn't mean I'm not enchanting," he quipped.

"I think that's true, yes," said House, after a moment. "I mean at the very least you'd be hot regardless."

Nyx giggled again. "I don't know that term," he confessed.

"You're ah, you're attractive," House said. "Nice to look at... sexy."

This was definitely the weirdest flirting he'd ever done. Though he was out of practice anyway.

"Ohhhh... Well, you are handsome, so I will call you hot too," Nyx said cheerfully.

A smile twitched at House's lips. "You know, Hex tells me I should... " Find love? "Flirt more. How am I doing?"

"Pretty good, though I'd suggest not asking for a ranking next time," he teased. "A lack of confidence isn't terribly desirable, I don't think."

House chuckled and looked down at his drink. "I'm just out of practice. So see, you're helping."

"How lovely of me," Nyx replied playfully, topping up his own drink, but only sipping it slow.

House had not been drinking slow, so he was rather pleasantly buzzed now. "Yes," he agreed, and then reached over and dragged two fingers over the top of Nya's wrist.

Nyx accepted the touch, though he wasn't sure what to do. On one hand, he liked the attention, and House seemed nice. On the other, he was living on Hex's charity for the most part, he felt wrong letting himself wander.

...But maybe he could earn some money?

No, that felt wrong too.

"I am here as Hex's guest," he said softly. "He is my host."

House could tell something was wrong, so he pulled his hand away.

"... okay?"

"I just mean I am flattered, but I am still learning how I am to behave here," Nyx explained.

"And you... need to ask Hex?" House said, glancing over at him. "Look, one thing about how to behave here is that your boss doesn't have any say in who you... touch."

"But he is a lover too, and humans don't like to share- Do they?" Nyx asked. "I need to ask him."

House blinked at him.

Then muttered, "Oh christ," and a ran a hand through his hair.

"Look, it's fine. Sorry, I shouldn't have.... I shouldn't have." He probably looked like a complete idiot.

"You're upset I have a lover? Fae have many, usually, but- He's the first human I've laid with," Nyx explained. "I don't want to hurt him."

"I'm not upset, just.... surprised." Though he wasn't sure why he was surprised.

"You're right that some humans don't like to share," he said.

Pause.

"But if it weren't for Hex, you'd... want me to touch you?"

"Yes," Nyx shrugged, assuming that was obvious.

House sighed.

Of course, Hex was cock blocking him without even trying.

"Well I guess that's good to now."

Nyx, on the other hand, had been enjoying just chatting and flirting a little, and couldn't help but be a bit hurt by how soured House seemed now. Had he only wanted to chat in hopes they might share a bed?

"I'll get you another drink," he offered.

"How about tea?" House offered. Being drunker wasn't going to help. "And we can talk about something else." Because he certainly wasn't going to keep flirting with him; even if Nyx had been nice about it it was kind of embarrassing.

"Sure. I'll only be a moment while I get the kettle boiling," Nyx assured him, studying House for a beat, then wandering into the kitchen.

House's leg was still aching. The alcohol had helped, but only so much.

When Nyx returned, he was rubbing his thigh with the heel of his hand, but when he saw him, straightened up again. "Thanks."
