"Wyn?" House stopped him in the hallway. "You have a minute?"

Part of him wanted to wait until he had more answers to talk to Wyn about the tests he'd been doing, but hee probably deserved to stay informed.

"My baby brother at that," Wyn said. "...I do love him, you know? I know I'm not thrilled to have him here, but I did miss him, and I do care about him. Thank you for caring for him too."

Fucking hell House was glad he hadn't slept with him, he'd feel like such a shit right now. And as it was, he still cleared his throat and looked slightly uncomfortable. "Well. He seems to just want what's best for you. And I care about you."

Fuck! That wasn't better! "I mean - you know what I mean."

"I care about you too," Wyn said, not seeing anything wrong with telling the other man as much.

House really needed to get laid, he decided. Because this was fucking ridiculous.He could not be feeling this way about a student. "Thanks."

"I'm sorry, was that inappropriate?" Wyn asked, worried he'd overstepped.

House sighed. "No. No, you haven't been appropriate at all. Me on the other hand... well."

"I don't feel like you've been inappropriate," Wyn replied. "You've been really generous with your time, and you've been kind to me since the day we met- And that means a lot to me."

House wasn't sure if it was actually helpful that his inappropriateness must have been mostly in his head.

"Ah. Well. You're welcome," he finally said.

Wyn smiled softly again, then brightened even more.

"Would you like to get a coffee? A good one, I mean. I can walk into town now."

What was House supposed to say to that? No I can't have coffee with you because I keep having sex dreams about you?

"You may be the only person at this school who wants to spend time with me voluntarily," he said. "But all right."

Wyn laughed brightly, getting to his feet.

"Their loss, professor," he assured him. "Come on, it's my treat. The place I like does an extra caffeinated blend that's amazing."

House stood, and all he could think of was Strange interrogating him about why he wanted to help Wyn.

"Lead the way." He grabbed his cane, the one that was... very slightly different.

Wyn kept his pace a bit slower than usual, mindful of Greg's leg as they walked out of the school.

"It's not far," he assured him, pulling his coat tighter around himself to try and chase away the cold.

The cold didn't really bother House. "You should get a scarf," he said.

"You're not wrong, I'm always cold," Wyn confessed. "I tend to use a spell to keep my hands warm."

"I can brew a potion for that," House offered.

"You're sweet, but you'd be brewing it day and night," Wyn laughed. "Besides, spring will come soon enough."

Sweet. Not a word people often used to describe him. "Well I like to solve problems," he said awkwardly.

"Well, I am quite the problem," Wyn quipped, laughing softly.

"A puzzle," House corrected. "Perhaps."

Wyn smiled at that, then nodded. "Perhaps," he agreed as they neared the cafe.

House did think Wyn was a puzzle, one of the puzzles being why he wanted to spend time with him.

"You seem to be in good spirits," House said as they walked in.

"Do I?" Wyn asked. "I suppose you put me in a good mood then."

Gods knew he wasn't a happy soul by nature.

"Do I?" House sounded sort of surprised. "Well. If you think I'm fun now just wait until I'm caffeinated."

Wyn laughed brightly, holding the door open for the other man and then leading the way to the counter where he ordered himself a cappuccino and then nodded for Greg to order too.
